When you hear the word ROBOT, what images conjure up in your mind? A number of movies in Hollywood were made showing what robots can do to mankind… Spielberg’s Artificial Intelligence, 2004 I-robot starred by Will Smith, and the 2005 20th Century Fox’s Feature Animation entitled Robots.

Most people view robots as friendly, as something or someone benevolent as partners or helpmates. But others view them as a threat…. as machines with superior intelligence, which would one day replace the human race. Still, to the majority robots are more fare of science fiction and human imagination that of real life.

The case of a first robot homicide took place in the year 1981. It was the first case which is known to us. In the incident a factory worker of Japanese Kawasaki was crushed by a robotic arm.

The International Federation of Robotics disclosed that as of 2006, there are almost one million industrial robots in service worldwide, and half of these exist in Asia.

Why is there such a demand?

Robots are doing great help in the industry, churning out a host of automotive, electrical, and household products. It is estimated that in the car manufacturing industry alone, there is one robot for every 100 human workers.
